Couples therapy

For you who want to understand your patterns, come closer to each other and find new ways to meet.

How I work

I work with IBCT (Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy), a well-researched method that combines two things: changing the behaviours that create distance, and accepting the differences that exist between you. We look at the recurring pattern in your conflicts rather than at who is right.

Couples therapy can suit recurring conflicts, difficulties with closeness and communication, broken trust, or when life changes affect the relationship. You do not need to agree on everything in order to start.

How we begin

The first sessions are a shared assessment:

  1. 1. The three of us meet

A first joint session where we go through your situation, how you each see the difficulties and what you want to change.

  2. 2. One session each

Then I meet you separately once, so that each of you has room to describe your own view and your own background.

  3. 3. We meet again and make a plan

The three of us meet again, I share what I have seen, and together we decide what to work on going forward.

Couples therapy is private and is not part of Vårdval Psykoterapi.

Good to know

A couples therapy session is usually 60 minutes. If you would like more time, a 75-minute session is also available. We usually meet every other week. How many sessions you need varies – some couples work over a few months, others for a shorter time. You do not need to have decided whether to stay together; couples therapy can also be about understanding each other better before a decision.

I do not take sides. My task is to help you understand the pattern you get stuck in and find new ways of talking to each other, also when you disagree.

You are warmly welcome to get in touch.
